In order to learn more about Inscape, I search some video tutorials… say in Youtube!, and I realise that a “famous” cast was screencasters. Thus, I wanted to download the whole set of episodes… 106 of them!!!
Sure, you can try by hand, but I guess you will give up after clicking in half of them.
Then, I remembered this useful command in Linux, wget,which allows you to download files from the web. This one of those very-ultra-super-powerful commands in Linux, if you don’t believe me, look at the manual file,
$ man wget
It is over 1500 lines! Clearly, you do not want to read all that for downloading some files!!!
$ wget -h
and you will get a short help.
In my personal case, the podcast to download are ogv files, and I found them all in the page screencasters, therefore I created a folder inside the Videos folder, called Inkscape, I moved to the new folder and run the command (all the step are below),
$ cd Videos $ mkdir Inkscape $ cd Inkscape $ wget -nd -np -c -A ogv -r http://screencasters.heathenx.org/wp-content/videos/ -l 1
-nd : Stands for non-directories… it download the files in the current folder, otherwise wget will create folders corresponding to the URL address, for saving the files.
-np : Stands for no-parents… this is stay in the current folder, do not go up.
-c : Stands for continue… there are 106 episodes, I’d like to continue be able to stop… and the next time continue from the last on. Avoid to override already donwload files.
-A : Stands for accept… in this case the command will download only ogv files. You can give a list of different extensions.
-r : Stands for recursively.
-l : Stands for level… How many directories you want to into looking for your files to be download. In my case only 1.
Hope you can use this hyper-short post.
