So, it is a worth solution for keeping your computer FLOSS and still do your symbolic calculations (as with Mathematica, Maple, MatLAB, Maxima -the later also FLOSS-).
How to install it in Ubuntu (Karmic)?
You could (not recommended) try with,
$ sudo apt-get install sagemath
but the version is too old, and even worst I got some issues with it.
The second (and best option) is to download the bin file from sagemath.org (thehe is one for ubuntu), un-compress it,
$ lzma -d sage-4.3-linux-Ubuntu_9.10-i686-Linux.tar.lzma $ tar -xf sage-4.3-linux-Ubuntu_9.10-i686-Linux.tar $ cd sage-4.3-linux-Ubuntu_9.10-i686-Linux $ make
And after the installation (might take several minutes), rum
